Sonavale and Mirza power Oman to five-wicket win over Qatar

Karan Sonavale supplied the fireworks and Hammad Mirza provided the control as Oman completed a confident five-wicket chase against Qatar in the ACC Men’s Premier Cup.

Oman reached 276 for five in 40.3 overs after Qatar posted 272. Sonavale set the pace with 83 from 55 balls, hitting five fours and seven sixes at a strike rate of 150. Mirza stayed unbeaten on 84 from 96 balls, while captain Vinayak Shukla finished 46 not out from 46 deliveries.

The chase briefly wobbled when Oman fell to 54 for two inside 10 overs. Sonavale and Mirza then changed the match with a 100-run third-wicket partnership from 69 balls. Sonavale eventually departed at 166, but Mirza continued to guide Oman toward the target. After Jiten Ramanandi fell at 182, Mirza and Shukla added an unbeaten 92 to complete the win.

Oman’s bowlers had earlier limited Qatar despite several useful contributions. Opener Zubair Ali made 77 from 101 balls, captain Mirza Mohammed Baig scored 59 from 38, and Imal Liyanage added 45. Hassnain Shah took four wickets for 58 runs, including the dismissals of Zubair and Baig, while Ramanandi claimed two wickets. Oman, now two wins from two Group B matches, will play Kuwait on September 5 and the UAE on September 8.
