Song Se-ra Aims for Asian Games Gold After World Championship Victory

South Korean épée fencer Song Se-ra is setting her sights on an Asian Games gold medal, aiming to continue her impressive run after recently reclaiming the world champion title. The 33-year-old athlete expressed high confidence in her current form and skill level during a recent meeting at the Jincheon National Training Center.

"My condition and skills are currently at their peak. My confidence has also risen significantly," Song stated. Her recent victory at the World Championships in Hong Kong marked her return to the world's top rank, four years after her previous world title win in 2022. This achievement made her the first South Korean fencer, male or female, to win individual world championships twice.

Fencing has long been a powerhouse discipline for South Korea at the Asian Games. Since the 1998 Bangkok Games, the South Korean fencing team has dominated, securing overall victory in six of the seven tournaments held. They hold a commanding lead in the historical Asian Games medal tally, boasting 52 gold medals, with their only slip being a second-place finish in the 2006 Doha Games.
