Sookmyung University to showcase engineering research at UKC 2026 in US

Sookmyung Women's University is set to participate in the 2026 UKC (Korean-American Scientists and Engineers Association) conference in Orlando, Florida, from August 5-8. This move aims to bolster global research collaborations and attract top talent by showcasing the university's engineering research prowess on an international stage.

Marking its 120th anniversary, Sookmyung's participation is a strategic effort to strengthen its network in science and technology. University President Moon Sook-yeon met with KSEA President Yoon Yong-gyu in March to discuss specific cooperation plans. The UKC, now in its 39th year, is the largest science and technology exchange event between Korea and the U.S., organized annually by KSEA.

Sookmyung will host a forum titled "Proud Sookmyung, Beyond 120; Future Research at Sookmyung Women's University" on August 7. This session will highlight the university's journey from its founding as Korea's first national women's educational institution to its current role in fostering female engineering talent and enhancing research impact. The forum will explore global joint research opportunities centered around its pharmaceutical and women's health research institutes, and outline the future vision for education and research at its College of Engineering, which celebrates its 10th anniversary.

President Moon will also join a "University Leadership Forum" panel on the same day, discussing the paradigm shift AI technology brings to higher education, research, and administration. She will present Sookmyung's differentiated educational strategies and innovative approaches to adapting to these changes. Earlier, on August 6, President Moon will deliver congratulatory remarks at the "Women in STEM Forum" organized by the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Technology (WISET), further strengthening Sookmyung's commitment to nurturing future female scientists and fostering R&D ecosystems.
