Sor joins Orban at Amedspor

Newly promoted Turkish club Amedspor has bolstered its squad by signing Super Eagles winger Yira Sor from Belgian side Genk. This move brings a second Nigerian international player into the Amedspor fold as they prepare for their debut season in the Turkish Super Lig.

Sor, 26, joins Amedspor after a spell at Genk that was hampered by injuries, limiting his playing opportunities. He had initially moved to Genk from Slavia Prague in January 2023. Having made his Super Eagles debut in March, Sor now aims to secure regular playing time and regain strong form in Turkey.

At Amedspor, Sor will link up with fellow Nigerian forward Gift Orban. Orban recently joined the club on a season-long loan from Bundesliga side Hoffenheim, with an option to make the deal permanent. Orban's move followed a period of uncertainty after he fell out of favor at Hoffenheim, having previously spent time on loan at Hellas Verona in Italy.

The arrival of Sor and Orban highlights Amedspor's strategy to strengthen their attack with Nigerian talent. They join a growing contingent of Nigerian players making the move to the Turkish Super Lig this summer, including Kelechi Iheanacho, who recently transferred to Bursaspor. Both Sor and Orban will be looking to make a significant impact in Turkey's top flight.
