Sorin Grindeanu Accuses PNL and USR of Deliberately Blocking New Government Formation

Social Democrat Party (PSD) president Sorin Grindeanu accused Romania's ruling parties, PNL and USR, of intentionally perpetuating the political stalemate. Grindeanu asserted that the current situation allows the governing parties to continue awarding contracts and organizing appointments for state agency leadership positions.

He claimed that since PSD is currently in opposition, the only consistent policy observed from the PNL-USR government over the past three months has been criticism directed at PSD.

I haven't seen in this period, in unison, but one thing. Only one public policy have I seen in three months since PNL-USR have been governing: the curse against PSD.

Grindeanu further alleged that PNL and USR are motivated by the financial benefits derived from the ongoing political crisis. He pointed to the awarding of contracts through SEAP (Electronic Public Procurement System), digitalization projects, and funding for affiliated NGOs as examples. These contracts, he suggested, are being secured even by newly established organizations shortly after their creation.

The contracts for SEAP, for digitalization, for all the things, for the house NGOs, established overnight and which, although they were created two weeks ago, win tenders at SGG.

Additionally, Grindeanu criticized the ongoing recruitment processes for leadership roles in government agencies. He suggested that these competitions are being rushed to ensure favorable outcomes before current interim managers' terms expire, implying a lack of transparency and fairness. He stated that PSD is actively seeking to assemble the necessary 233 votes in Parliament to form a stable government, expressing hope for a resolution in the coming weeks and an end to the uncertainty surrounding the prime minister's position.
