Bryson was celebrated for his powerful voice and romantic ballads, achieving international acclaim with numerous hits. He gained widespread recognition in 1991 for his duet with Celine Dion on "Beauty and the Beast," the theme song for Disney's animated film. The following year, he collaborated with Regina Belle for "A Whole New World" from "Aladdin," a song that made history as the first from an animated film to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Born Robert Peapo Bryson in Greenville in 1951, he harbored a lifelong passion for music. He began his professional career as a teenager, singing backup for the local group Al Freeman and the Upsetters, where he adopted the stage name "Peabo." After performing with Moses Dillard and the Tex-Town Display, he was signed by Bang Records, releasing his debut album "Peabo" in 1976. He later moved to Capitol Records, solidifying his status as an influential figure in soul and R&B music.
