South Gyeongsang launches travel map for people with pets

South Gyeongsang Province is introducing a travel map designed for people who want to explore the region with their pets.

The “With Dogs and Cats” service, named with the Gyeongsang dialect words for dogs and cats, begins at 9 a.m. on Sept. 2. It will initially list 258 locations, including restaurants, accommodations, beaches, playgrounds, tourist sites, walking trails and cafes. The entries will be organized across 25 types of destinations and five facility categories, such as parking, dining and exercise areas.

The map is built to grow through user participation. Visitors can leave ratings, share their experiences and post recommendations or cautions for each location. They can also request that unlisted facilities be added. A trip-planning feature lets users create routes from registered places, check travel times and convenience information, then share completed itineraries on social media or with family and friends.

To mark the launch, the province will hold an “Ugly Pet Photo Exhibition.” Photos can be submitted through a Naver form from 9 a.m. on Sept. 2 until 6 p.m. on Sept. 11. Users will judge the entries from 9 a.m. on Sept. 21 until 6 p.m. on Oct. 20.

A provincial land-information official said the service would combine government-provided information with users’ experiences and new contributions, while the province continues checking and updating its own listings.
