South Korea Braces for Highs of 36 Degrees Amidst Scattered Showers

Much of South Korea will swelter under high temperatures on Wednesday, with daytime highs expected to reach around 33 degrees Celsius across most regions. Daegu and Ulsan are forecast to experience the peak heat, with temperatures climbing as high as 36 degrees Celsius.

The Korea Meteorological Administration has issued heatwave advisories for most of the country, warning that the intense heat will persist. They anticipate tropical nights, where minimum temperatures remain above 25 degrees Celsius, in urban areas and along the coast.

While the southern regions bake, the Seoul metropolitan area and Gangwon Province can expect some relief in the form of rain on Wednesday morning. Scattered showers are also forecast for the afternoon in parts of Jeollanam-do, Gyeongsang-do, and the mountainous areas of Jeju Island. However, these showers may be accompanied by strong winds, thunder, and lightning, and visibility could be reduced, making roads slippery.

Despite the possibility of rain in some areas, the daytime high temperatures will remain significantly above the seasonal average. The perceived temperature could feel even hotter, especially in areas like inland Chungcheongnam-do and parts of the southern provinces, where it may reach up to 35 degrees Celsius. Citizens are advised to exercise extreme caution, particularly those working outdoors.
