South Korea braces for rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds

South Korea is set to experience a significant shift in weather on Sunday, with cloudy skies and rain expected across the country. This change is anticipated to bring an end to the current heatwave gripping the Seoul metropolitan area.

However, the forecast indicates a more intense weather pattern for the southern regions, which could be hit by heavy rain accompanied by strong winds, lightning, and thunder. Meanwhile, central regions are bracing for substantial rainfall, with some areas expected to receive over 200 millimeters, raising concerns about potential flood damage.

The Korea Meteorological Administration has issued advisories, urging citizens to exercise caution. They highlight that perceived temperatures may be higher than actual readings in outdoor work environments such as factories, fields, and roads. The administration recommends avoiding strenuous exercise and outdoor activities to prevent heat-related illnesses.

Specific forecasts include the Seoul metropolitan area receiving between 10 to 60 millimeters of rain, with up to 100 millimeters in southern Gyeonggi Province. The Yeongnam region can expect 30 to 80 millimeters, while the Honam region anticipates continued muggy weather with temperatures exceeding 25 degrees Celsius. Jeju Island is forecast to experience continued heat and tropical nights with temperatures reaching 33 degrees Celsius.
