South Korea Braces for Weekend Rain and Heatwaves

South Korea is set for a weekend of variable weather, characterized by widespread cloud cover and intermittent rain, according to the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA).

While most regions will see precipitation, some areas might experience temporary lulls in the rainfall. The capital, Seoul, and surrounding areas in Gyeonggi Province are expected to receive showers from morning through the afternoon, with a possibility of renewed rain in the evening. Other regions, including Gangwon Province and the Chungcheong and Jeolla areas, will also experience varying amounts of rain.

Despite the rain, southern parts of the country are bracing for continued heatwaves. The KMA forecasts that the apparent temperature in these areas could reach as high as 33 degrees Celsius due to high humidity. Some coastal areas in the south and Jeju Island may experience tropical nights, where temperatures do not drop significantly overnight.

Maximum temperatures nationwide are expected to range between 26 and 31 degrees Celsius, with cities like Seoul and Busan reaching around 30-31 degrees. Minimum temperatures in the morning will range from 21 to 26 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, air quality is anticipated to be good across the country, with fine dust levels remaining at 'good' levels.
