South Korea Joins G7 Digital Meeting, Eyes AI Partnership with France's Mistral AI

South Korea has participated in the G7 Digital Technology Ministerial Meeting held in Paris, France, to engage in discussions on global artificial intelligence (AI) cooperation. During the visit, the South Korean delegation is set to meet with the CEO of Mistral AI, a prominent French open-source AI startup, to solidify plans for bilateral AI industry collaboration and talent exchange.

The Ministry of Science and ICT announced that the delegation, led by Second Vice Minister Ryu Je-myeong, attended the meeting on May 29 (local time). This marks South Korea's second consecutive year receiving an invitation to the G7 meeting as a key partner in digital and AI fields, underscoring its growing role in international technology discussions.

The conference brought together high-level officials from G7 member states and invited countries, including South Korea, along with representatives from international organizations. Discussions focused on pressing issues within digital technology, such as ensuring safe and responsible AI development, promoting AI utilization among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), advancing digital carbon neutrality, and protecting minors online.

The meeting occurred amid a growing international focus on balancing AI-driven innovation with trust and ensuring a secure digital transition. South Korea's participation highlights its commitment to contributing to global efforts in shaping the future of AI and digital technologies responsibly. The engagement with Mistral AI signals a strategic move to foster partnerships with leading AI innovators and enhance its capabilities in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
