South Korea routs Thailand by 72 points in Jones Cup opener

South Korea launched their campaign in the 45th William Jones Cup International Basketball Invitational with a resounding victory, crushing Thailand 112-40 in the final day of the group stage.

The South Korean squad, featuring the reigning WKBL champion KB Stars, set the tone early, establishing a commanding 37-1 lead in the first quarter. This overwhelming offensive and defensive pressure allowed them to control the game from the outset.

Despite a slight improvement in Thailand's scoring in the second quarter, South Korea maintained a substantial lead, ending the first half at 67-18. South Korea's team statistics highlighted their dominance, with a 56.8% field goal percentage and 13 successful three-pointers out of 25 attempts in the first half. Thailand struggled with 25 turnovers and a 35% shooting percentage in the same period.

In the second half, Thailand showed stronger defensive resolve, briefly halting South Korea's scoring. However, their offensive struggles continued, resulting in another quarter dominated by South Korea. Ultimately, South Korea's balanced scoring, with five players reaching double digits, and a 53.8% overall field goal percentage, secured their decisive win. Luo Yunjeong led the scoring with 23 points, including six three-pointers, while Lee Chae-eun added 18 points.

With this victory, South Korea finished second in Group B with a 1-1 record. They are set to compete for third place against the second-ranked team from Group A, aiming to improve their standing in the tournament.
