South Korea's Nuri rocket set for Oct. 7 launch with 15 satellites

South Korea's space ambitions are set to take another leap forward with the scheduled fifth launch of the Nuri rocket on October 7. The mission, originating from the Naro Space Center, aims to deploy a record 15 satellites into orbit, marking a significant milestone for the nation's space program.

The Nuri rocket will carry the first mass-produced cluster of small satellites, satellites 2 through 6, into space. These satellites arrived at the space center on October 24 and are currently undergoing functional checks. Additionally, 10 CubeSats are expected to be delivered by October 31.

Oh Tae-seok, head of the Space Agency, highlighted the mission's importance. "This fifth Nuri launch will carry the most satellites to date, 15 in total, and will accomplish the crucial task of deploying South Korea's first cluster of small satellites into orbit," he stated. "This will serve as an opportunity to further advance Nuri's mission capabilities and our space transport capacity."

Space Agency officials are meticulously preparing for the launch, with a reserve period set from October 8 to 14 to accommodate potential weather or other unforeseen circumstances. The launch window is planned between 12:23 PM and 1:23 PM KST, with the final time to be confirmed on the launch day. The successful deployment of these satellites is expected to bolster South Korea's position in the global space industry.
