Hyundai, Kia open joint AI training center for auto parts suppliers

Hyundai Motor Group and Kia have launched a specialized training center aimed at bolstering the competitiveness of their small and medium-sized auto parts suppliers. The facility, located at the Hyundai Motor Group Global Cooperation Center (GPC) in Gyeongju, aims to enhance AI-based manufacturing quality and support suppliers in their transition towards future mobility.

The joint AI training center will provide customized, field-focused AI education in quality, processes, and data. It is designed as a systematic AX (Artificial Acceleration) support platform to help suppliers, currently focused on internal combustion engines, adapt to becoming AI and data-centric high-value-added future vehicle parts manufacturers.

This initiative represents a significant public-private partnership, combining Hyundai and Kia's advanced training infrastructure, supplier network, and expertise with government policy support. The program will initially train approximately 900 employees from first and second-tier parts suppliers this year. The scope and number of trainees are set to expand substantially from next year, accelerating AX adoption across the entire supply chain.

Training will emphasize practical application, moving beyond theoretical knowledge. Key components include diagnosing supplier AI readiness, providing step-by-step AI training tailored to specific job roles, utilizing actual defect data from company factories for problem-based learning (PBL), and fostering an AX culture through forums and seminars. Courses will cover generative AI for automating tasks like creating work standards and quality documents, AI vision inspection for maximizing defect detection in manufacturing, and quality risk management through big data analysis.
