South Korea's U-17 Women's Volleyball Team Advances to World Championship Round of 16

South Korea's U-17 women's volleyball team has advanced to the Round of 16 in their debut World Championship, achieving a remarkable 4-0 record in the group stage. The team secured their advancement by defeating the Dominican Republic 3-1 (25:18, 21:25, 25:19, 25:17) in their fourth match.

Under the guidance of coach Lee Seung-yeo, the "Asian champions" have swept aside Puerto Rico, Taiwan, Italy, and now the Dominican Republic. Their perfect record and 12 points guarantee them a top-four finish in Group D, regardless of the outcome of their final group match against Algeria. The tournament features 24 teams divided into four groups, with the top four from each group advancing to the 16-team knockout stage.

Leading the charge is outside hitter Son Seoyeon, already drawing comparisons to Korean volleyball star Kim Yeon-koung. Son was instrumental in the victory against the Dominican Republic, scoring a team-high 23 points, including blocks and service aces. Throughout the tournament, she has been a dominant force, averaging an impressive 22.75 points per game. Other key contributors include Jang Su-in with 14 points and Eo Min-seo with 12 points. Lee Da-yeon also added 10 points, significantly contributing through blocks and serves.
