South Korea to Boost AI Investment, President Lee Meets Anthropic CEO

South Korean President Lee Jae-myung revealed plans for substantial investment expansion in the artificial intelligence (AI) sector during his visit to San Francisco. The announcement came during a meeting with Dario Amodei, CEO of the prominent AI firm Anthropic.

"The Republic of Korea plans to significantly expand its investment in the artificial intelligence field going forward," President Lee stated during his meeting with Amodei. He expressed his anticipation for Anthropic's "special interest and contribution" to Korea's AI ambitions. Lee noted he had briefly met Amodei at a G7 summit lunch but lacked an opportunity for a personal conversation, expressing pleasure in meeting the globally recognized figure.

Earlier, upon arriving at San Francisco International Airport for an AI summit, President Lee and his wife, Kim Hye-kyung, were welcomed by San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie. As a gesture of welcome, Mayor Lurie presented the president with an autographed baseball from Lee Jung-hoo, an outfielder for the San Francisco Giants.
