South Korean councilor apologizes for drunken taxi fare dispute and police station disturbance

A city councilor in Chuncheon, South Korea, has apologized for her drunken behavior after refusing to pay a taxi fare and subsequently causing a disturbance at a police station. Kim Ji-sook, a member of the Democratic Party representing Chuncheon City Council, was reportedly heavily intoxicated on the evening of July 28th.

According to reports, Kim refused to pay the taxi fare and, upon arrival at the Hupyeong Police Station, verbally abused police officers. She later stated that she fell on a sidewalk after leaving the police station and was taken to the hospital, where she regained some sobriety. She then went to the police station early on July 29th to apologize.

Kim has since apologized to the taxi driver and plans to apologize to a specific police officer involved. While police did not arrest her at the time, considering her condition, Kim has pledged full cooperation with the ongoing investigation. The Democratic Party's Gangwon Provincial Chapter has suspended her party membership for one year, and the Chuncheon City Council is set to deliberate on additional disciplinary measures.
