South Korean Lottery Winner Has Yet to Claim 2 Billion Won Prize

A South Korean Lotto winner still has roughly 50 days to claim a first prize worth 2,001,627,550 won from draw No. 1196.

Donghaeng Lottery said the ticket matched the numbers 8, 12, 15, 29, 40 and 45. It was sold at a lottery retailer in Namyangju, in Gyeonggi Province. The prize must be claimed by Nov. 2.

Lottery prizes in South Korea must be collected within one year of the payment start date. If the deadline passes, the entire amount will be transferred to the national lottery fund under the Lottery and Lottery Fund Act.

The fund supports public-interest programs, including housing stability projects, scholarships and welfare programs for vulnerable groups. Kim Jeong-eun, head of Donghaeng Lottery’s service division, urged people to check tickets they may not have verified and claim any prize before the deadline.

Kim also said buyers could use the electronic lottery registration system known as Lottery Wallet when purchasing tickets at retailers. The service can provide winning notifications and automatically pay unclaimed prizes, helping prevent winners from missing their money.
