South Korean national and embassy staff evacuated from Nepal flood zone via military helicopter

A South Korean national and an embassy staff member have been safely evacuated from the flood-ravaged Rasuwa region of Nepal, thanks to the assistance of the Nepalese military. The two individuals had been isolated in a temporary shelter after choosing to remain in the area following a severe flood.

The South Korean national is identified as a site manager for Doosan Enerbility. He had stayed behind after the flood to help evacuate local Nepalese staff. While the exact reasons for his prolonged stay were not detailed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it is believed to be related to concerns about potential secondary floods.

This latest evacuation means that all 10 South Korean personnel who were initially stranded have now been safely relocated. Nine other employees from Doosan Enerbility were rescued by a Nepalese military helicopter on the previous day and were reported to be in good health. However, communication remains lost with nine other South Koreans, including three from Korea South-East Power and six from Doosan Enerbility, who were working at a local hydropower plant construction site.

The South Korean government plans to deploy a chartered helicopter for search and rescue operations as soon as it receives permission from Nepalese authorities. To date, no South Korean tourists have been reported as victims of the flooding. The situation in Nepal remains critical, with over 540 foreign nationals from approximately 20 countries reported missing due to floods along the Botekoshi River in the Himalayan region.
