South Korean President Lee Jae-myung is set to embark on a significant diplomatic mission to South America, visiting Brazil, Chile, and Argentina. This tour follows his engagements in San Francisco, where he met with tech leaders. Lee announced his departure on X, formerly Twitter, stating, "Heading to South America, the continent of passion and abundance." He emphasized that Brazil, Chile, and Argentina are key nations leading South America's political, economic, and cultural landscape. This visit, Lee stated, will broaden the horizons of South Korea's practical diplomacy into South America and deepen economic cooperation, laying the groundwork for future growth. He described Brazil as the fifth-largest country by territory and the largest economy in South America. Lee highlighted his existing rapport with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, noting they have met several times over the past year and built a deep friendship. "I look forward to strengthening bilateral trust and creating tangible cooperative outcomes that our citizens can feel," Lee said. He added that he felt excited to meet President Lula, whom he described as always welcoming him with a warm smile and unique affinity, comparing the upcoming meeting to visiting an old friend. Lee concluded by addressing President Lula directly, saying, "Mr. President, I will see you soon in Brasilia."
