Southport Killer Charged with Prison Attacks and Weapon Possession

Axel Rudakubana, the individual responsible for the tragic 2024 murder of seven-year-old Elsie Dot Stancombe, six-year-old Bebe King, and nine-year-old Alice da Silva Aguiar, now faces a new set of charges stemming from alleged incidents within HMP Belmarsh.

Prosecutors allege that over a six-month period, from May to October 2025, Rudakubana committed three assaults while incarcerated. These charges include two counts of assaulting an emergency worker, one count of attempted grievous bodily harm, and unauthorized possession of an offensive weapon within the prison.

Rudakubana, who was under 18 at the time of the initial murders, was sentenced to 52 years in January 2025. He is expected to serve the majority of his sentence, as the judge could not impose a whole life order due to his age. Earlier this month, he was transferred from HMP Belmarsh to Broadmoor, a high-security psychiatric hospital, following recommendations from medical professionals.

The decision to transfer Rudakubana to Broadmoor has drawn criticism from a lawyer representing the victims' families. Rudakubana is scheduled to appear remotely at Westminster Magistrates' Court on September 11 to face these new charges.
