SpaceX plans $100bn spaceport in Louisiana

SpaceX announced ambitious plans Tuesday to construct a massive $100 billion spaceport in Louisiana, aiming to accelerate its development of the Starship megarocket and support a multiplanetary future.

The facility, to be located in Vermillion Parish, is projected to create more than 3,000 direct jobs over the next decade. According to SpaceX's website, the spaceport will be equipped with over a dozen launch towers, enabling thousands of Starship flights annually, with the first launch anticipated in 2029. This development positions the site to become the largest launch facility on Earth.

Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry highlighted the economic benefits, stating that SpaceX is committed to investing at least $100 billion and creating over 3,000 new jobs. The Louisiana Economic Development agency noted that the average salary for workers at the facility would be 192 percent above the region's current mean wage.
