Nigeria Approves Framework for Digitized National Addressing System

Nigeria's National Addressing Council (NAC) has approved a preliminary framework to establish a digitized and modern national addressing system. The initiative, chaired by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, aims to create a system capable of locating every community, supporting businesses, and strengthening government services without compromising privacy.

Under the Renewed Hope Agenda, our duty is to build institutions that match the energy and mobility of our people. We must build a system that locate every community, support enterprise without barriers and stregthen government without compromising privacy.

"Wherever a citizen lives, wherever a business operates, wherever help is required, Nigeria should find the address," Shettima stated during the council meeting in Abuja. He emphasized that a country unable to locate its people and businesses faces avoidable weaknesses in planning, commerce, security, and social protection.

Our objective should be simple for Nigerians to understand. Wherever a citizen lives, wherever a business operates, wherever help is required, Nigeria should find the address. This is the standard before us and I am confident that the council will deliver.

The Federal Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation will act as the secretariat for the NAC, tasked with guiding technical implementation and ensuring the system's integration with other public digital infrastructure. This integration is expected to yield significant gains in financial inclusion, social interventions, logistics, planning, and emergency response.

Shettima stressed the importance of institutional discipline to achieve the ambitious goal, ensuring the addressing system serves both villages and metropolises effectively. The framework is designed to connect citizens and enterprises to opportunities and services, strengthening national identity and access to aid.
