Meanwhile, Cape Verde's 0-0 draw with Saudi Arabia was enough to see them progress to the knockout stage in their debut World Cup appearance. The match, played simultaneously with Spain's game, saw both teams fail to capitalize on their chances. Cape Verde finished second in Group H with three points, setting up a Round of 32 clash with Argentina on July 3 in Miami.

Uruguay's elimination was confirmed after their loss to Spain. Agustín Canobbio received a red card in second-half stoppage time for a second yellow. Saudi Arabia also exited the tournament, finishing last in Group H with two points after their goalless draw with Cape Verde. The tournament is being held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
