Spain's government moves to ban smoking on beaches and at outdoor restaurants

Spain is moving towards a significant public health initiative with the government's approval of a bill that proposes banning smoking and the use of e-cigarettes in various outdoor public spaces. This includes beaches, parks, and areas with outdoor seating at restaurants and cafes.

The legislation, put forth by the Spanish Ministry of Health, aims not only to create smoke-free environments but also to tackle youth tobacco use and limit the marketing of tobacco products. Health Minister Monica Garcia stated the straightforward objective is to make "clean air the norm in our common spaces" and foster a "tobacco-free generation."

While the bill has received government approval, it still needs to pass a vote in Spain's parliament to become law. The proposed measures reflect a broader trend in public health policy focused on reducing the prevalence of smoking and its associated health risks.
