Spain’s Sacyr selected for 110-kilometer highway concession in Chile

Sacyr Concesiones has submitted the best offer for a new concession covering Chile’s strategic Route 57 between Santiago, Colina and Los Andes, according to the country’s Public Works Ministry.

The concession covers 110 kilometers between the Metropolitan and Valparaíso regions. Authorities estimate the investment at 800 million euros. Sacyr’s offer exceeded those submitted by Vías Chile and the Nueva Autopista Los Libertadores consortium, whose technical proposals were also accepted.

The project will modernize a road considered important for national and international transport, especially cargo and passenger flows from Argentina. The route will link Santiago, Chacabuco province and Los Andes, as well as the commercial corridor leading to Argentina through the Los Libertadores border complex.

Sacyr Concesiones Chile SPA presented the best offer, exceeding the other bidders that submitted acceptable technical offers, Vías Chile SA and the Nueva Autopista Los Libertadores Consortium.

The project schedule calls for new works to begin in 2031, with the entire route expected to enter service in 2035. The concession will include the maintenance and operation of existing infrastructure, along with the new works. Plans include third lanes on sections with the highest demand, new interchanges, crossings and service roads, a new Chacabuco tunnel and modernization of the existing tunnel. The project also includes cycle lanes, pedestrian footbridges and associated bus stops.

Lorena Herrera, director general of the ministry’s Concessions Directorate, said the project would renew a key international freight route and act as a driver of economic recovery and job creation in the Santiago, Chacabuco and Los Andes provinces. Sacyr has operated in Chile since 1996 and currently holds concessions for 12 roads, five airports, seven hospitals at different stages of development and five sanitation plants. The company says it has a presence in 14 of Chile’s 16 regions and employs more than 4,100 people directly.
