Spain Wildfires Force Mass Evacuation Near Madrid

Over 10,000 residents faced a large-scale evacuation order as wildfires spread towards the outskirts of Spain's capital, Madrid. The fires have encroached upon several towns, including Villa del Prado, Aldea del Fresno, and San Martín de Valdeiglesias.

The current blazes are an extension of a significant wildfire already burning in the neighboring Toledo province. Authorities issued an evacuation order for the entire village of Aldea del Fresno, home to approximately 3,500 people, as the flames approached densely populated areas. Care homes and facilities for the elderly in the vicinity were also evacuated.

The Spanish military's emergency unit has been deployed to support firefighters battling the intense flames. High temperatures and strong winds are exacerbating the situation, making containment efforts extremely challenging. Several roads leading to the affected areas have been closed to facilitate emergency operations and ensure public safety.

Firefighting crews, supported by aerial resources and emergency medical teams, are working tirelessly to control the spread of the fire. The situation remains critical as the fires continue to advance, threatening more communities surrounding the capital.
