Spanish flamenco singer Rocío Márquez brings award-winning performance to Paraguay

Spanish flamenco artist Rocío Márquez, a prominent figure in contemporary flamenco, is set to captivate audiences in Asunción, Paraguay, with a special concert.

Márquez, recognized for her innovative approach to traditional flamenco, will present her fifth album, “Visto en El Jueves” (Seen on Thursdays). This critically acclaimed work draws inspiration from musical finds discovered at the historic El Jueves market in Seville, reinterpreting past songs and styles with a modern sensibility.

The concert marks Márquez's debut performance in Paraguay, following her appearances in Uruguay and Chile. Her performance in Asunción is scheduled for Sunday, August 30, at the Cultural Center of Spain, "Juan de Salazar." The event is part of a broader regional tour and is being co-produced by the Cultural Centers of Spain in Asunción, Montevideo, and Santiago de Chile.

Adding to the significance of the occasion, the concert is a free-access event and is being held in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Cultural Center of Spain in Asunción, an institution pioneering the network of Spanish cultural centers worldwide.

Rocío Márquez, born in Huelva in 1985, has a distinguished career marked by academic rigor and artistic excellence. She holds a doctorate from the University of Seville for her thesis on "Vocal technique in flamenco" and is the only Spanish artist to have won the prestigious Les Victoires du Jazz award for Best World Music Album.
