Spanish influencer Roro accused of identity theft by Ecuadorian creator

A dispute has erupted between Spanish TikTok influencer Roro and Ecuadorian creator Galita Ari, with Ari accusing Roro of identity theft and plagiarizing her content. The controversy centers on allegations that Roro copied Ari's distinctive video format, slow speaking pace, and editing style, which Ari claims to have been using since 2018.

Galita Ari stated that her online persona is not a character but her authentic self. The conflict reportedly began after Ari connected with Roro's partner through a dating app, after which Ari claims she started receiving offensive messages and was blocked on social media platforms. Ari has presented evidence, including videos from January 2022, showing her cooking pasta with a narrative style similar to Roro's popular content, asserting she used glasses, a soft voice, and an apron years before Roro gained prominence.

However, Roro's side, represented by journalist Javi Hoyos, denies the accusations. Hoyos stated that Roro claims to not know Galita Ari and cited Lara Smith as her primary inspiration for culinary content. This case highlights a broader issue on digital platforms concerning content originality and the protection of creators' identities.

Adding to the controversy, Galita Ari's main TikTok account was permanently suspended in mid-June 2024 for alleged identity impersonation. Ari believes these mass reports are connected to the Spanish influencer's recent surge in online visibility. The National Cybersecurity Institute (INCIBE) explained that social media platforms' automated moderation systems can issue preventive suspensions based on cumulative reports, impacting Ari's career during a period of health issues.
