Spanish miniseries and 'Betty La Fea' season lead new streaming releases

As August draws to a close, streaming services are refreshing their catalogs with a diverse lineup of new series and films, aiming to capture audience attention beyond existing phenomena.

Netflix is premiering the Spanish miniseries "Toda la verdad de mis mentiras" (All the Truth of My Lies) on Friday. Based on Elísabet Benavent's best-selling novel, the five-episode adaptation follows a bachelorette party that evolves into a complex emotional journey for two friends and roommates. Directed by María Togores and Marina Pérez, it stars Ricardo Gómez, Daniel Ibáñez, Itziar Manero, and Brays Efe.

Prime Video is set to release "Betty La Fea: Más fea que nunca" (Betty the Ugly: Uglier Than Ever) on Friday, marking the third season of the popular series. This season promises a new look and renewed energy, with the full "Cuartel de las Feas" reuniting for the first time since the original novel. The season also brings back key characters from the original plot, such as El Francés and Román.

Additionally, Prime Video will feature the fictional drama "Barreda" starting Friday. Directed by Daniela Goggi, the film revisits the 1992 quadruple femicide committed by dentist Ricardo Barreda, focusing on the lives of his four victims and the gender-based violence inherent in the case. It stars Luis Machín, Mercedes Morán, Carla Peterson, Maite Lanata, and Margarita Páez.

Disney+ is releasing "Yellow Mirror: Homero's Parallel Reality," a new special from "The Simpsons." In this episode, a faulty lamp reveals a disturbing truth about Homer's reality, while an AI-powered tablet befriends Maggie and takes control. The Simpson family must confront these dark and strange stories to restore normalcy. Netflix is also adding the "Shrek" film saga on Thursday, featuring the beloved ogre's adventures. Meanwhile, "The Last Sunrise," a romantic drama based on Anna Todd's novel, arrives on Prime Video on Wednesday, following a young woman with a chronic illness who finds inspiration in a charismatic local.
