SPAR Slovenia Boosts Local Producers with Direct Sourcing Platform

SPAR Slovenia is deepening its commitment to supporting domestic agriculture by expanding its "Straight from the Producer" initiative. This program ensures that products offered under this label boast a 100% Slovenian origin, guaranteeing a direct and traceable link from the farm to the supermarket shelf.

The core principle of the "Straight from the Producer" platform is to eliminate intermediaries, thereby ensuring the shortest possible supply chain. This not only provides customers with access to exceptionally fresh and high-quality local goods but also directly benefits Slovenian farmers by offering them a stable market and fair prices. SPAR emphasizes its dedication to the "Because I Care" initiative, underscoring its commitment to authentic taste, Slovenian farmers, and the future of the country's food self-sufficiency.

Currently, over 40 selected Slovenian producers are part of this initiative, with their products available across various departments, including fruits and vegetables, meat, and dairy. Notable participants include Sirarna Videc, a cheese producer from the Kozjansko region known for its sustainable farming practices and unique cheeses made from the milk of Slovenian brown cattle.

SPAR maintains long-term collaborations with its local partners, enabling joint annual planning and providing producers with greater security. When sufficient Slovenian produce is available, the company prioritizes these local goods, halting imports to further bolster domestic agriculture. This strategic approach not only supports the livelihoods of Slovenian farmers and preserves local expertise but also encourages consumers to actively choose locally sourced products, strengthening the national economy and promoting sustainable food systems.
