Speaks out for the first time after split with Gjert Ingebrigtsen

Narve Gilje Nordås has broken his silence regarding the end of his coaching relationship with Gjert Ingebrigtsen, describing the partnership as a prolonged period of "struggle and hustle." Nordås, speaking to NRK, indicated that the demanding nature of elite athletics had taken a toll on their work dynamic over the past several years.

It became a struggle and a hustle and a chase and a scramble, which I feel has become a lot in recent years.

"Both felt a kind of weariness over many years. Elite sports are demanding," Nordås told NRK. He emphasized that the decision to end their collaboration was mutual, stemming from a shared recognition that it was time for a change. "No hard feelings are attached to it afterward, I think," he added.

Ingebrigtsen also recently concluded his coaching roles with foreign athletes and stepped down as a coach entirely. This follows a tumultuous period involving his sons, Jakob, Filip, and Henrik Ingebrigtsen, with whom he had a public falling out in 2022. The sons accused their father of aggressive and controlling behavior, including violence and threats during their upbringing, allegations Gjert Ingebrigtsen has denied.

Nordås is scheduled to compete in the 1500-meter qualifying round at the Norwegian Championships in Trondheim on Friday. Meanwhile, Gjert Ingebrigtsen was acquitted of domestic abuse charges against several children in June 2025 but was convicted of one count of assault against his daughter.
