Special announcement by Negeri Sembilan Chief Minister sparks dissolution rumors

Speculation is rife in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia, as the state's Menteri Besar (Chief Minister), Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, is set to make a special announcement this evening. The invitation extended to media representatives for the 11 p.m. event at the official residence has fueled rumors about the potential dissolution of the State Legislative Assembly (DUN).

The office of the Menteri Besar's Press Secretary issued the invitation without specifying the announcement's content, adding to the intrigue. This move comes amid expectations that Aminuddin Harun would seek an audience with the Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, to request permission to dissolve the DUN.

Such a dissolution would pave the way for state elections. This possibility aligns with recent statements from Pakatan Harapan (PH) leaders, who have indicated readiness to dissolve state assemblies in their respective territories if the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition were to dissolve theirs unilaterally. This sentiment was previously expressed by DAP Secretary-General and Negeri Sembilan DAP Chairman Anthony Loke at the PH Convention in Johor on May 17.

Further fueling the anticipation, Members of the Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly have not received any notice for a DUN sitting scheduled for next week. The Negeri Sembilan DUN is constitutionally set to dissolve automatically if no sitting is held before June 10, which falls on the upcoming Wednesday. The current legislative term would expire on that date.
