Speeding driver kills man in Oyo

A middle-aged man died after being struck by a vehicle while crossing the expressway at Orogun Bus Stop in Oyo State. The incident occurred around 9 p.m. on Friday along the Ojoo/Iwo Road.

Eyewitnesses reported that the driver fled the scene immediately after the collision. One witness, who identified herself as Iya Kadijat, described hearing a loud noise and seeing the man die instantly. She stated the driver did not stop, and she left the scene in a taxi due to panic.

I was at the bus stop when the incident happened. I was waiting to board a commercial vehicle to General Gas Bus Stop, under the bridge before Iwo Road, when I suddenly heard a loud noise. The driver did not stop at all, while the man died immediately.

As of Saturday, the victim remained unidentified, and shops in the area were closed due to the previous day's weather. Community members are urging authorities to announce the incident on radio and television to help locate the victim's family. They are also requesting the evacuation of the body to prevent potential environmental hazards.

The Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed he would contact the appropriate authorities for the body's evacuation. The incident highlights the dangers of crossing busy expressways, especially at night.

Almost all the shops were closed at that time because of yesterday’s weather. This morning, we asked around the community and nobody knows him. So, we are calling on the authorities concerned to come and evacuate the corpse before it causes environmental hazards.
