Sportivo 2 de Mayo eyes success in Clausura and Copa Paraguay

The Paraguayan football club Sportivo 2 de Mayo is gearing up for a competitive season, focusing on strong showings in both the upcoming Clausura championship and the Copa Paraguay. The team, nicknamed "Gallo norteño" (Northern Rooster), has partially renewed its squad as it aims to build on its previous success, having reached the final of the Copa Paraguay in the prior edition.

Under the technical guidance of Eduardo Ledesma, the "avícola" squad benefited from an extended preparation period coinciding with the 2026 North America World Cup. The team's captain is the experienced defender Pedro Pablo Sosa. The starting lineup for their Clausura debut against Rubio Ñu will be finalized after tactical reviews, with preliminary indications suggesting the inclusion of several new players and a debutant goalkeeper.

Sportivo 2 de Mayo will kick off its Clausura campaign this Friday at the Río Parapití stadium in the capital of Amambay, facing Rubio Ñu at 4:00 PM. Ticket prices for the match have been set at 30,000 guaranies for the stands and bleachers, and 50,000 guaranies for preferred seating.

In the Copa Paraguay 2026, the club will enter the competition in the third phase, scheduled to play against Humaitá from Mariano Roque Alonso, a team competing in the fourth and final tier of Paraguayan football. Sportivo 2 de Mayo's participation in the Copa Libertadores last year was a result of the descent of the previous year's champion, General Caballero of Juan León Mallorquín.

The club from Amambay is currently in its seventh season in the top flight, spanning two distinct periods. Their first stint in the Primera División was from 2006 to 2009, followed by their return in 2024. The club is looking to make its mark in both domestic competitions this season.
