SR Enhances Safety Management for High-Speed Train Operations

SR, the operator of South Korea's SRT high-speed rail service, is intensifying its safety management protocols to ensure the secure operation of its trains. This initiative comes as the company navigates changes in its operating environment following the integration of railway operations and anticipates increased passenger numbers during the summer vacation season.

To bolster its emergency response capabilities, SR recently operated a special summer holiday response headquarters from late last month until the 10th of this month. This measure focused on preemptively inspecting critical infrastructure, including trains and facilities. In conjunction with August being designated as "Industrial Safety and Health Month," SR is actively promoting safety and health campaigns. These include distributing fire extinguishers and providing cooling equipment to prevent heat-related illnesses, alongside safety guidance for passengers.

Furthermore, SR has developed a new "Vertical Evacuation Route Citizen Action Manual" video. This video, designed to aid swift passenger evacuation and rescue in emergencies, particularly within the Yulhyeon Tunnel, South Korea's longest deep-buried tunnel, will be broadcast on SRT train monitors. The company is also strengthening its supply chain for essential train components, having established a procurement plan with the Korea Railroad Corporation since April. Contracts are underway for 19 items across five categories, including pantograph collector plates and speed reducer gears. SR is also enhancing its management system for key components like the tripod and traction motor with specialized maintenance agencies.
