SSDC chairman demands transparency, accountability from board

Chibudom Nwuche, the newly appointed Chairman of the South-South Development Commission (SSDC) Governing Board, has called for the highest standards of transparency, prudence, and professionalism from board members and management. Speaking at the commission's Fourth Regular Meeting in Abuja, Nwuche stressed the importance of teamwork and collective responsibility in achieving the SSDC's mandate.

We must not do anything that would bring ridicule to this Commission, embarrassment to our region, or disappointment to those who entrusted us with this important national responsibility.

The SSDC, established to address infrastructure deficits and foster socio-economic growth in the South-South region, officially came into existence in March 2025. Nwuche cautioned officials against actions that could damage the commission's reputation or erode public trust. He emphasized that personal interests should not impede the fulfillment of the responsibilities entrusted by the President and the people of the region.

We must distinguish ourselves by the quality of our conduct and the standards we uphold in managing the affairs of this Commission.

Nwuche highlighted the broad and strategic mandate of the SSDC, which includes investments in critical sectors like infrastructure, energy, agriculture, and environmental remediation. He stated that achieving these ambitious goals requires an open-minded, collaborative approach, receptive to ideas from all board and management members. The former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives underscored that no single individual possesses all the necessary expertise for the task ahead.

None of us, not even myself as chairman, the managing director, executive directors, nor any member of the board, possesses all that is required to achieve the lofty goals for which this Commission was created.
