SSPC honors two agents killed in Omealca, Veracruz: “They devoted their lives to protecting others”

Mexico’s Security and Citizen Protection Secretariat said farewell to two agents who died while carrying out investigative work in Omealca, Veracruz, honoring them as men who devoted their lives to serving and protecting others.

“From the Security Cabinet, we honor their memory and reaffirm our commitment that this crime will not go unpunished,” the agency said on social media. It offered condolences, solidarity, respect and institutional support to the agents’ families, adding that their service to Mexico would not be forgotten.

We remember two men who devoted their lives to serving and protecting others. To their families, we express our deepest condolences, solidarity and respect, as well as our full institutional support.

The agents were investigating criminal cells involved in kidnapping and extortion in the Omealca region when organized-crime suspects opened fire near the town of Paso Amapa, the agency said. Two agents died and another officer was injured and received medical care. A uniformed officer whose whereabouts were initially unknown was later found in good health.

Security institutions, working with authorities in Veracruz and Oaxaca, launched an operation to find and arrest those responsible. They located two pickup trucks linked to the attack and found evidence inside connected to a criminal cell involved in kidnapping and extortion in the area. During the wider operation, authorities also located and rescued two people who had been held captive. They were released safe and sound. Investigators and security forces continue working to find and arrest everyone involved.
