Standing Ovations Mark Farewell for 'Harry Potter' Stage Play in Hamburg

After four and a half years of magic, the stage production "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" bid farewell to Hamburg on July 26. The final performance, or "Dernière," at the Theater am Großmarkt was completely sold out, with 1,670 guests filling the venue. Many attendees came dressed in costume, celebrating the beloved story.

Theater director Marcel Neitzel announced on stage that the show had welcomed a total of 1.8 million visitors. "You laughed, marveled, followed along with excitement, and were moved. For that, we want to say thank you from the bottom of our hearts today," he told the audience.

Since its premiere in December 2021, the production, based on a story by Jack Thorne, J.K. Rowling, and John Tiffany, has staged over 1,400 performances in Hamburg. The play focuses on an adult Harry Potter and his son, Albus Severus Potter, who attempts to right past wrongs using a time-turner, inadvertently causing significant disruption.

While the Hamburg run has concluded, there are currently no plans for "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" to continue at another venue in Germany. Following the magical production, the Theater am Großmarkt will host "Moulin Rouge!" starting in the fall, with previews planned from October 28 and the gala premiere on November 5.
