Bella Ramsey, the 22-year-old star of "The Last of Us" and "Game of Thrones," feels a profound sense of shame about the substantial income they earn. Ramsey, who identifies as non-binary and uses they/them pronouns, stated in an interview with The Guardian that they ended up in an industry that pays people like them far too much money. This realization seems to cause the young actor significant discomfort. Ramsey described feeling isolated during their school years in the English Midlands, feeling both too young and too old for their peers. A later diagnosis of neurodivergence helped explain this childhood isolation. On film and television sets, however, Ramsey found a greater sense of belonging. Having secured major roles at a young age, Ramsey quickly accumulated wealth. This financial success, however, does not bring unalloyed joy. Ramsey recently purchased an apartment but admitted it felt "very wrong," believing such milestones should be achieved at a later age. They reasoned that people typically start working at 21 and might buy a house at 31. Ramsey views their early success and high earnings as a systemic issue within the entertainment industry, stating, "I've ended up in an industry that pays people like me far too much money. I'm terribly embarrassed by it."
