'Star Trek' Actor William Shatner and Daughter Both Beat Advanced Cancer

William Shatner, the iconic actor known for portraying Captain Kirk in 'Star Trek,' has shared a deeply personal journey of battling advanced cancer alongside his daughter, Melanie.

In 2023, Shatner, now 95, received a diagnosis of stage 4 malignant melanoma that had spread to his lungs and brain. This news came after his 61-year-old daughter, Melanie, had already been fighting advanced breast cancer since 2022. Shatner underwent surgery to remove a tumor, followed by two years of immunotherapy, while Melanie continued her chemotherapy treatments.

Melanie described her father's support as crucial during her initial diagnosis. Shortly after her condition improved, Shatner received his own diagnosis after discovering a lump on his cheek. This shared experience has profoundly impacted their lives, with Melanie noting a reduction in fear and an increased sense of freedom, while Shatner expressed gratitude for everyday moments.

The father-daughter duo has channeled their experience into a new podcast, 'No Time But Now,' set to launch on July 29, 2026. The podcast will feature interviews with health specialists and survivors of serious illnesses. Shatner also remains professionally active, with plans for two books and two heavy metal albums in 2027, and a live performance at Chicago's Riot Fest on August 20, 2026.
