State of Mexico launches summer vacation security operation

The State of Mexico has officially launched its "Summer Vacation 2026" operation, deploying 2,732 state police officers to safeguard key tourist destinations and highways. Governor Delfina Gómez Álvarez initiated the campaign from the Government Palace.

According to Security Secretary Cristóbal Castañeda Camarillo, the operation, which runs until August 31, includes Civil Protection, the State of Mexico Emergency Services (SUEM), the state police, and the armed forces. Their collective mission is to maintain public order, ensure citizen safety, and preserve social peace throughout the region.

During this period, security personnel will focus their vigilance on 12 designated Pueblos Mágicos (Magic Towns) and 25 Pueblos con Encanto (Charming Towns). Additionally, 132 tourist and recreational centers will be monitored, with patrols and security cordons established along 21 key tourist routes, highways, and major access roads.

The State Secretariat of Security (SSEM) alone will deploy 2,732 officers, 780 diverse units, 25 canine teams, 25 horses, 20 drones, and one helicopter. These forces will be augmented by personnel from Municipal Public Security Directorates, the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena), the National Guard, and the Secretariat of the Navy.

He emphasized that the goal is to ensure the safety of vacationers while strictly adhering to the law and respecting human rights.
