Stevens scores three touchdowns as Riders beat Bombers in overtime

Tommy Stevens scored three touchdowns, including the one-yard overtime winner, as the Saskatchewan Roughriders beat the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 32-26 on Sunday.

The victory moved Saskatchewan to 8-4 and gave the Roughriders second place in the CFL West Division, behind the Edmonton Elks at 8-3 before their Monday game in Calgary. Winnipeg fell to 6-6.

Saskatchewan took the first possession in overtime and reached the end zone on Stevens’ one-yard run. The Roughriders missed the ensuing two-point conversion, leaving Winnipeg a chance to respond. Saskatchewan ended that chance by stopping the Bombers on third-and-six from the Saskatchewan 31-yard line.

The Riders entered the fourth quarter trailing 16-13, then took a 20-16 lead when Stevens ran for a one-yard touchdown. Sergio Castillo’s fourth field goal brought Winnipeg within one with 5:44 remaining, but Saskatchewan answered with a 70-yard drive in five plays, finished by Stevens’ three-yard touchdown run.

Winnipeg forced overtime on the final play of regulation, when Zach Collaros threw a five-yard touchdown pass to Dorian Singer. Earlier, Trevor Harris connected with Quali Conley on a seven-yard scoring pass. Harris also passed Doug Flutie on the all-time passing list with a 72-yard completion to Daniel Wiebe. After passing for 341 yards, Harris reached 41,590 career yards, 2,267 behind ninth-place Matt Dunigan. Anthony Calvillo remains the CFL’s career leader with 79,816 yards.
