Stolen Motorcycle Crash in Pocitos Leaves One Suspect Critically Injured, Another Flees

A high-speed chase through Montevideo's Pocitos neighborhood ended in a serious traffic accident involving two suspects on a stolen motorcycle and a civilian vehicle.

The incident occurred when police officers from the Special Tactical Support Unit of Montevideo (Unatem) spotted the motorcycle, which had been reported stolen on May 14. Officers attempted to signal the riders to stop, but they refused and fled, initiating a pursuit.

The chase concluded when the motorcycle collided with a gray Nissan van at the intersection of Avenida Brasil and Araucho. The impact was severe enough to push the van onto the sidewalk, mere meters from a local business. According to witnesses, the suspects were traveling at "full speed" before the crash.

One of the motorcycle riders, a 17-year-old minor, suffered critical injuries and remained at the scene. His accomplice managed to get up after the collision and escaped before authorities could apprehend him. The condition of the occupants of the Nissan van was not immediately reported.
