Severe thunderstorms in the New York and New Jersey areas forced Spain to cancel its final training session before the 2026 FIFA World Cup final. The Royal Spanish Football Federation cited U.S. storm safety protocols for the suspension of the team's practice at the Melanie Lane Training Ground.

Argentina also faced weather-related disruptions, with their final training session delayed by 45 minutes. The U.S. National Weather Service had issued warnings for severe thunderstorms and potential flash flooding across the metropolitan areas.

Despite the disruptions, forecasts predicted clear skies and a high of 84 degrees Fahrenheit (29 Celsius) for Sunday's final match between Spain and Argentina at MetLife Stadium. The extreme weather also impacted FIFA President Gianni Infantino, preventing him from flying to Miami for the third-place playoff between England and France. He was seen at the final's stadium instead, ensuring preparations were in order.
