Storms hit Slovenia overnight, causing most damage in Goriško

A powerful overnight storm brought strong winds and heavy rain to Slovenia, leaving a trail of damage and disruption. The regional information centers recorded 26 incidents, with the Goriško region bearing the brunt of the storm's fury.

In the Nova Gorica area alone, 17 incidents were reported. Firefighters from 20 units were mobilized to clear fallen trees that obstructed roadways and to cover damaged roofs on residential and other buildings. The storm's impact extended to the Idrija municipality, where multiple downed trees blocked roads. Firefighters from Spodnja Idrija and Vrsnik, along with road maintenance crews, responded to the scene.

Further damage was reported in the Tolmin area, where fallen trees and dislodged stones were cleared from roads. A residential building was also damaged by the storm. Firefighters from Tolmin and Ponikve-Planota, supported by road and telecommunications service crews, assisted in the cleanup.

The storm also reached the wider Ljubljana area, resulting in two reported incidents that required the activation of one professional firefighting unit. The swift response of emergency services helped mitigate further damage and restore normalcy.
