Strategy to strengthen coastal protection

Fiji is enhancing its efforts to protect and manage marine resources through a national workshop focused on community-based fisheries management. The two-day Fiji National Tools Distribution Workshop, held in Suva, convenes Ministry of Fisheries officials, development partners, and key stakeholders.

The workshop, organized by the cChange Pacific team, aims to equip participants with a better understanding of the Community-Based Fisheries Management Toolkit. Discussions are centered on practical methods for communities to safeguard marine resources and bolster sustainable fisheries management. The program incorporates technical presentations and "talanoa" sessions, fostering the exchange of experiences, ideas, and partnerships.

Key topics include improving community-based fisheries management, effective use of CBFM tools, fisheries awareness, community outreach, and monitoring and evaluation. The cChange Pacific team emphasizes the critical role of collaboration, stating that communities require the right knowledge and tools to preserve Fiji’s fisheries for the benefit of future generations.
