Street Brawl in Düren Leaves Eight Injured; Weapons Used Include Hammers and Axes

A violent street brawl erupted in Düren, Germany, on Sunday evening, involving around 20 individuals and resulting in eight people sustaining injuries, two of them serious. The altercation saw the use of various makeshift weapons, including hammers, table legs, axes, and baseball bats. Reports indicate that the violence was brutal, with assailants continuing to strike and kick individuals even after they had fallen to the ground.

When police arrived at the scene, bystanders had already intervened to separate the fighting groups. Six of the injured individuals were transported to nearby hospitals. Two individuals who were severely injured were discharged from the hospital the following day, while the remaining six sustained minor injuries.

Initial police investigations suggest the conflict originated from a disturbance at a birthday party held on Friday. One of the involved parties reportedly felt disturbed by noise from the celebration, leading to a verbal exchange. Subsequently, one group filed a threat complaint against the other. The situation escalated dramatically on Sunday evening.

Authorities currently believe that the two groups involved in the fight did not know each other personally prior to the incident, and there is no indication of a long-standing conflict. Two men, a 22-year-old from Düren and a 23-year-old from Cologne, were initially detained but later released after a warning from the police. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
