The professor noted that the book's title, "SHADOWS," aptly reflects the non-linear progress of democracy, acknowledging both Nigeria's achievements, such as sustained constitutional government and peaceful power transfers, and its persistent challenges, including governance issues, insecurity, and electoral malpractice. He stressed that honest examination of these challenges offers vital lessons for improving democratic practice.

Amupitan concluded by underscoring that elections are not isolated events. While Electoral Management Bodies are crucial, the credibility of the electoral process is also shaped by political leadership, party conduct, and the independence of the judiciary.
