Striker Left Out by Croatia Coach Could Make Million-Euro Transfer

Franjo Ivanović might be on the move from Portuguese giants Benfica after just one season, with Turkish champions Galatasaray reportedly showing strong interest. Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk is said to be impressed by Ivanović's profile and wants him in his squad. The 23-year-old striker has struggled to secure consistent playing time at Benfica, often coming off the bench.

Ivanović's limited minutes at Benfica were a key reason Croatia coach Zlatko Dalić did not select him for the upcoming World Cup. He has made 42 appearances for Benfica, scoring eight goals and providing three assists, and can also play on the wing, a versatility that appeals to Buruk. Benfica acquired Ivanović last year for 23 million euros, viewing him as a player for the future. However, the club is at a crossroads following Jose Mourinho's departure, potentially leading to a squad overhaul.

Benfica finished third in the Portuguese league last season, missing out on the Champions League and ending a title drought stretching back to the 2022/23 season. Ivanović, who was born in Austria, initially joined Croatian club Rijeka in 2023 before moving to Belgian side Royal Antwerp for four million euros. In Belgium, he scored 21 goals and provided seven assists in 46 matches, earning him the transfer to Benfica. His current market value is estimated at 15 million euros by Transfermarkt.
